Which method are you using to access Snarl? I only ask as, of V42, the request you send to Snarl can be in the region of 65,000 characters. If you can explain a bit more about the method (SNP, Win32) and the library (VB, .net, Ruby, etc.) you're using, that would help.

This is in progress. I have an app (Snarlicator) which identifies user sign-in/out for Office Communicator 2007 working already but it's not quite production ready just yet. Would this address your requirement?

Snarl provides Twitter integration via Nymphicus (http://www.li-ghun.de/nymphicus/) and via the Tweet-It style (http://tlhan-ghun.de/projects/snarl-styles/tweet-it/) - does this address what you need?

Ok, so there is progress on this happening behind the scenes. One of my other projects (Desktopia) is currently piloting a modified Prefs Kit which allows for localisation which, if successful, will be rolled into Snarl. Please keep voting for this feature!

Sorry you're having problems with this. Can you point me to pre-compiled binaries for Linux and OS X? I have an Ubuntu 11 VM set up and Lion 10.7.3 which I can test it on. If its easier, please register at http://groups.google.com/group/snarl-discuss/ where we can help you faster.

Thanks for replying. I downloaded the pre-compiled gntp-send from https://github.com/psinnott/gntp-send and tested it using both UDP and TCP and it worked fine with no crash by Snarl. Can you post the command line you're sending so I can test that?

Snarl does support GrowlNet (Growl on UDP) - are you saying it's not working?

After more consideration, I think there is a way for notifications to begin at the centre of the screen. More work will need to be done, however. Marking as planned for R2.8 or later.

AdminChris P (Admin, Full Phat Products) commented  ·

Certain display styles can implement custom positioning which allows them to appear in the centre of the screen already - is this what's required here?

AdminChris P (Admin, Full Phat Products) commented  ·

Notifications usually begin at a screen corner so they can fill the screen vertically and horizontally as more appear. If a notification starts in the centre of the screen (for example), where should subsequent notifications appear?

Ideally, the emesene plugin developer would limit the length of text that is sent to Snarl themselves. That way, they can apply special formatting to the text at source rather than let Snarl guess at it.

Developers can't set a limit per se; it's the end user who can control the about of lines of text which are displayed in a notification.

AdminChris P (Admin, Full Phat Products) commented  ·

You can already limit the number of lines of text a notification is allowed to display and we encourage application developers to be sparing with what they put into notifications. Can you post some examples of overly large notifications?

I downloaded aimp3 and it looks good. Does it support Winamp plugins (it seems to imply it does) as we have two Winamp plugins that support Snarl already.

I couldn't find a good screenshot of "wide band" but from what I saw, Snarl will most likely not provide that level of functionality, but that's not to say some users would still like to receive a notification through Snarl when the playing track changes.

Can you post a link to the aimp3 plugin SDK please? I couldn't find it on the website...

I agree that Windows needs a centralised application package manager. All these different update engines are very frustrating. I'll take a look into creating a PAD and also see how easy integrating Google Updater will be.

Is this resolved, or do we still need a plugin for aMSN?
